Apple cider vinegar has been said to help people remove warts and to kill head lice. An article from WebMD stated that its use for treating these issues has been studied multiple times with negative results.
Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol
Vinegar is widely regarded as a natural remedy for improving heart health, decreasing cholesterol levels and lowering blood pressure. A 2006 study referenced by WebMD suggests the cholesterol claims may be true. The study’s results revealed a correlation between a vinegar diet and lower cholesterol levels in rats.
In terms of blood pressure, positive results were found for a correlation between lower blood pressure and vinegar consumption. Once again, the study was conducted using rats and has not yet been proven with human subjects.
On the other hand, a longitudinal study that observed people that used vinegar salad dressing frequently had lower rates of heart disease. While you can’t argue with the correlation, the study does not discount the presence of confounding variables that may have been the true catalyst behind the improved heart health.
Readers Digest published an article that addressed some of the most popular health benefits of apple cider vinegar. Some of the health benefits that the article cited included helping to quell an upset stomach, helping to stop hiccups and fighting off indigestion.
The article also suggested that vinegar can be used to help deal with certain cold symptoms. Consuming apple cider vinegar has been found to help sooth sore throats and clear up a runny nose.
More Uses for Vinegar
Many people stand by apple cider vinegar as an effective disinfectant. While it can be used to kill germs and clean kitchens and other areas, it does so with less efficiency than traditional cleaning solvents such as bleach.
